NNEDV Mourns the Loss of Senator Robert C. Byrd
June 28, 2010
Washington, D.C. – Sue Else, NNEDV's president, today issued the following statement mourning the death of U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia.
“Our deepest condolences go to Senator Byrd’s family, friends, colleagues and dedicated staff. Senator Byrd was a true champion for the people of West Virginia and the nation. He was a public servant who was not afraid to change his mind to better serve this country even in his final months.
“Senator Byrd was consistent in supporting the Violence Against Women Act, now celebrating its 15th anniversary, providing life-saving services for survivors of sexual and domestic violence and holding perpetrators accountable. He was a strong ally, especially as he led the Appropriations Committee.
“Senator Byrd lived a long life of service to the United States, and for that, we are grateful. May he rest in peace.”
