Sue Else to receive prestigious Barbara Potts Awards

Ms. Else has worked tirelessly for over twenty years on the issue of domestic violence.  She was the Executive Director of Hope House for nineteen years before taking the reins of NNEDV in May of 2006.  She transformed Hope House from a revolving door agency into a comprehensive program providing a full spectrum of services to victims of domestic violence. She was instrumental in improving services to break the intergenerational cycle of violence.

Ms. Else brought the voice of battered women and their advocates to the national and international level insuring their stories are heard by policymakers to influence the development of domestic violence prevention and intervention programming. She leads efforts to build the capacity of state domestic violence coalitions, strengthening their leadership and support for local domestic violence programming.

In recognition of the challenges domestic violence programs are facing across the country, Ms. Else is developing a fundraising program to support movement sustainability so that no woman will have to suffer in silence.

Hope House will honor Ms. Else in Kansas City at their annual gala on Saturday evening, August 23, 2008. Several hundred business leaders, domestic violence advocates, political leaders, and supporters of Hope House will be in attendance.
