Job Description
WomensLaw.org is located in Brooklyn, NY. WomensLaw.org aims to provide easy-to-understand legal information and resources to women living with or escaping domestic violence and/or sexual assault. By reaching out through the Internet, we empower women and girls to lead independent and productive lives, free from abuse and assault.
Our website (http://www.womenslaw.org/) publishes state-specific legal information about domestic violence and sexual assault. We also provide help through email, directly to women and advocates, throughout the U.S.
Law student interns at WomensLaw.org have the unique opportunity to produce information and materials that will be viewed by thousands of survivors. Currently, over 60,000 different people visit our site per month; we also answer over 400 emails from survivors monthly.
We are seeking a law school intern for Summer 2012 to work from our Brooklyn, NY office (in DUMBO) on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The intern will assist our organization by conducting legal research and preparing and updating plain-language legal information for publication on the WomensLaw.org website. Topic areas include:

State-specific restraining order information,

State-specific custody information,
-
State-specific divorce information,
-
Federal immigration information,
-
Information on stalking and other crimes,
-
Other legal areas affecting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, (including, but not limited to cross-cultural access to legal material and services).
Qualifications

MUST show a prior dedication to women's issues including, but not limited to, domestic violence, sexual assault, etc.

Family law coursework or experience is preferred but not required.

Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills.

Highly organized and self-motivated.

Strong coordination and planning skills.

Ability to multi-task and manage several projects at once, as well as assist with other organizational needs.

Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.

Flexible, positive, and compassionate manner; able to handle sensitive situations.

Basic computer skills required (MS Windows, Word, Internet)

Knowledge of web publishing programs (Dreamweaver) is helpful, though not required.
