October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM)

"A Walk In My Shoes"

CCADV honored Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2008 with a Community Awareness Brunch and Rally on October 6. Communities of faith attended the third annual brunch, organized by CCADV's Interfaith Task Force.

More than 200 advocates, community members and media attended the lunchtime rally held at the state capitol. Close to 200 pairs of shoes, created by survivors of domestic violence, were displayed on the lawn. The display exhibited this year's theme, "A Walk in My Shoes," which gives survivors an opportunity to express their feelings. Jacqueline Withers spoke about her personal experience as a survivor of domestic violence (pictured below).

CCADV's Survivors' Task Force organized the rally, and also presented the third annual Community Impact Award to Pastor Ramona Brown (pictured below).
